| Name: | Arius |
|---|
name; Arius age; 32 country; Kilia class; Shaman weapons; Light magic birthday; September 9 [Virgo] blood type; AB family; Sariah, mother, deceased; Thoren, father, deceased Languages: Trade [fluent], Kilian [fluent], Old Kilian [fluent], High Kilian [fluent], Old High Kilian [fluent] Arius was named after his grandfather, who was in turn named after his, and in turn again and again. He was the only child of his parents, a pair of researchers who were investigating the effects of dark magic on living things -- of course, everyone knew that dark magic killed living things, but there were other things that had to be tested. Other ideas, other effects, other results. How it killed, residual effects, side effects, anything and everything to do with dark magic. Arius never had much skill with dark magic. Elemental magics were a breeze, and he chose to favor light magic in his studies, but he never cared for the weight, the density, the darkness that the arts his parents treasured were marked by. It is for that reason that his parents never loved him as they should have (or so he felt) and never paid him the attention he deserved (or so he felt). Their studies were more important than their son, and Arius was left to raise himself, teach himself the magics he cared to learn, with only the help of a single tutor that was even older than Arius' grandfather had been before his unceremonious passing. Arius considered the old man daft, and took to training himself. He did, however, take after his parents in his fascination with life. How it ticked, how it worked, how it breathed. What, exactly, made a human life so much more valuable than that of an animal? When Arius did indeed discover the lack of information on such ideas in the light magics, he began to examine those of the dark despite himself, and came to a curious conclusion: why couldn't the concepts involved in dark magic be applied to light magics in a simply different way? He decided that, since clearly no one else had any interest in studying such effects, it would be up to him to do so. He joined his father in researching, much to his father's surprise, only to ask after a few months why he wasn't digging deeper, why he wasn't working harder, why he was so satisfied with observing animal life in the place of human life. His father told him that man was not to meddle in the affairs of the Dragons. Arius calmly disagreed, and his father became his first human research project, only to be followed closely by his mother. Arius came into the inheritance of his father's research work, and it carried on rather merrily without his help, while he turned his attention to his own interests. When a member of the researchers working under Arius would disappear, or go missing, or leave one evening and never come back, no questions were asked. Just the way Arius preferred things. Cold, calculating, and almost cruel, Arius may seem to his observers to be less than human. He has no interest in human morality or ethics, and though he claims to be a pious man, there's yet to be any proof of him being what he claims. On the contrary, he seems as utterly non-pious as possible, and stories circulate among the researchers as to whether he is actually human at all. He doesn't bother to put on much of a "mask" around those he works with. He may come across a bit "softer" and less calculating in public situations, but he's still got a very imposing air, especially for someone of his build. He also tends to make rather poor first impressions, since he has little respect for authority and tends to ignore what his guests are actually saying in favor of hearing what he wants to. Arius is incredibly brilliant, a genius of sorts, and has no reason not to be recognized as one. Under his tutelage, his father's research has only blossomed -- as well as his own. He's managed to use the dark research as a rather impressive front for his own research on light magic and its effects on people. He has little concern or respect for life when it comes to things like theory, magic, and most of all, truth. He says often, including to his fellow researchers, that "nothing should get in the way of truth, man least of all." Arius is tall, especially for a Kilian, with very pale hair and skin, in such a way that he almost looks like a ghost or a wraith. He tends to grow his hair slightly long, though he still cuts it just near his chin, and he has pale eyes to go along with the rest of his very pale coloring. He's also of a very frail build, even for his age, and sometimes looks younger than he actually is. pb; Creed Dsikenth; Black Cat player; Dots [ for; [Dots does not claim to own Creed Dsikenth; he belongs to whoever wrote/drew Black Cat.] |
